I've painted and done graphic design for years, but I always struggled with one thing about art: it was made for its own sake, with no one to answer to but myself. There was no real decision behind most of what I made, just instinct. Product design gave me the thing I was missing. It's not only about how something looks, there's structure underneath it, and every choice needs a reason. I like that a lot more than I expected to.
